The firm of Lambert & Nelson, PLC was appointed by the United States District Judge Eldon Fallon to the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee just months following Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of the Gulf Coast and, more specifically, New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish. From the beginning of that case, directed by Judge Fallon initially from his temporary chambers in Houston, our firm was relied upon to develop the facts and evidence regarding the failure of the Murphy Oil Refinery Storage tank that floated, ruptured, and spilled over a million gallons of crude oil into the flood waters and into the homes of the residents of the people of St. Bernard Parish.

PetroChemical fingerprinting by GCMS (Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometry) demonstrated that the oil in the residents’ homes came from the refinery, not other sources. Our firm was instrumental in developing the proof of negligent conduct that led to the rupture/release, the clean-up protocol, and many other technical issues which were keys to resolving the matter quickly for the residents of St. Bernard Parish.

Our firm, with experience in engineering and physics is particularly suited to contribute in the technical areas in complex mass tort and multiple party litigation.
Our firm handled most of the presentation of evidence at the Class Certification Hearing which resulted in certification of Class and a distribution of $350 + million in clean up costs, relief to St. Bernard residents, and attorneys fees.
